THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WHITE WALLS, PLANTS AND WOODS
The home design trends you need to know!
If a move is coming (or you're thinking about buying a new place!), it's time for you take notes on the strong home design trends we're seeing and loving - especially on Pinterest. Marble countertops, bright well lit walls, hanging plants, and strong pops of colour complement beautifully the mixed-metal trimmings and rough wood details.
Starting with the kitchen, plants are the pop of colour we've been needing. The easiest ones to manage for all you plant-killers are succulents, and bromeliads (we call them bros) - although a fern is always welcome! As per usual, the clearer the countertops the happier the kitchen.
Tip #1: As you look at new homes, make sure not to focus on elements you can easily change: is the paint awful and in your least favourite colour? A coat of paint is all you'll need!
You've seen these floating shelves all over, they've gained so much popularity you can find hundreds of DIY videos/articles all over the internet. My favorite? The obvious combo of subway tile with black grout and white dinnerware (and the very important pop of color a plant can offer)
Tip #2: When you're in your (maybe) future kitchen, try to imagine yourself cooking in it: the lighting, the noises, etc are good things to notice!
Finishing off the kitchen with my favorite detail: the wooden beams. Now, I understand that not every home will have that kind of architecture but if you find one: don't cover it! You may even want to consider foam wood beams (trust me, they can look identical).
Tip #3: Notice the simplicity here: white countertops, small pops of color (with the lemons, the plant and the subtle red rug) and very clear spaces.
